SCORING SYSTEM
95-100 Exceptional
This wine excels among those of a similar type, vintage and region. It is extremely impressive in every sense: full of complex elements, both on the nose and on the palate, produced by a combination of soil, variety, method of production and ageing. It is elegant and out of the ordinary, far exceeding commercial standards and in some cases unknown to the general public.
90-94 Excellent
Wine with the same attributes as above, but with less outstanding or individual characteristics.
80-89 Very Good
A wine that stands out due to the elements acquired during the wine making and/or ageing process or the inherent qualities of the grape variety. A wine with specific characteristics, but without highlighting any particular attributes of the soil.
70-79 Acceptable
Although not as distinctive, the wine fully reflects the characteristics of its type and wine-producing region. There are no defects, but no virtues either.
60-69 Mediocre
An acceptable wine in which slight defects can be detected, but not losing too much in the overall effect.
50-59 Not recommended
A harmless but unenjoyable wine. It may be oxidised or have defects due to ageing or late racking; it may be an old wine past its best or a young wine with unfavourable yeasty aromas.
